“ Could you tell me more about the sort of projects you're involved in as a General Management graduate? ”

Graduate Management Trainee, NHS Leadership Academy

Hi Serena,

General Management Trainees are placed in a variety of services across the NHS (incl. Emergency Medicine, Outpatients, Theatre, Paediatrics, Community Healthcare, Specialist Services etc.), and so the sort of projects you're involved in as a General Management Graduate will depend on your placement organisation.

Some placements are more operations-focused, whereas others are more strategic. For example, my current job title is 'Operational Lead', and so most of my time is focused on the day-to-day running of the service (e.g. monitoring staffing levels (incl. sickness, annual leave and other absences), scheduling staff training, and general business continuity.

Projects I'm currently working on are mostly concerned with improving staff satisfaction, implementing new ways of working, and encouraging integration between Health and Social Care services.

I expect that my second placement will be more strategic, and so will involve more project-type work.

I hope this helps to answer your question. If you have anymore questions- please do let me know.

Good luck with your application,
